Chris Ballard (“Bloke 1”) grew up around construction sites and renovation projects, helping out in his father’s painting & wall covering business for nearly ten years.  As the business moved into carpentry, cabinetry and remodeling, Chris continued to pick up skills, which became the foundation for his love of woodworking, design/build furniture making and DIY projects.  In addition to his years of on-the-job training and self-teaching, Chris has completed seminars and multi-week courses through the Fairfax County Adult & Community Education (ACE) program, in project permitting, deck building, Residential Electrical Wiring and HVAC-AC.  He also completed a 22.5 hour exam prep. course and successfully passed the Virginia Contractor’s Business Course, VA Contractor’s General and Advanced (Level A) Exams, and Building Technical (BLD) Exam.  As his 26-year Air Force career gives way to military retirement, he is moving from “Boots to Business” by launching 2 Blokes Construction — specializing in custom home remodeling, renovations and professional assistance and/or “rescue” for the overly-ambitious DIYer.

Andrew Muir (“Bloke 2”) grew up in England in the Town of Folkestone, Kent.  The philosophy in his family was always to “do it yourself”, he learnt many of his skills from his dad and extended family on projects both big and small.  Andy earned his Bachelors Degree at the University of Chichester in 1991 prior to emigrating to the US in 1994, and earned his Masters at the University of Virginia in 2004.  He has been involved in the complete renovation of several kitchens, bathrooms and general living areas including his own and that of friends.  He prides his work on being completed to the highest standard from what you see on the outside to what is hidden in the walls.  Andy will always follow the same philosophy on any project — “if you’re going to do it, do it right the first time!”  He looks forward to providing a service to you to improve your home, work or where you spend your spare time.
