We can transform your outdated space into something fresh, functional and stylish! (click on an image to enlarge)
“BEFORE” — Small kitchen and a separate, formal dining room.
Not enough counter space or cabinet storage.
Kitchen wall (future pass-through bar)
Dining room and kitchen joined by a single doorway.
Formal dining room.
Living room wall (future pass-through bar)
Soffit and wall removed.
The “open concept” is taking shape!
Reordering the kitchen … new microwave nook and refrigerator alcove being framed-in.
New header installed to form an opening for a “pass-through” into the living room.
Sheetrock complete; “green board” is moisture and mold resistent (used on the outside walls).
New 3/4″ oak flooring is “fingered” into the existing dining room floor.
Lots of seating and functional counter space! The old kitchen floor had 5 layers and was 3/4″ higher than the dining room. 4 layers were removed and identical oak flooring was installed before the entire area was sanded and refinished.
The gallery wall.
Granite, “leathered” finish
144 glass tiles were hand cut and randomly inserted into the slate mosaic as accents.
“LIKE!”
The pull-out spice racks in the island only add 6″ to the length — the “lost” floorspace is more than made up for in valuable storage. The trash/recycle bins and flip-out sink front are not cheap, per se, but add a lot of function as well.
A brighter space too … where there used to be only 4 lights, there are now 21!
Additional cabinets and a buffet added to the dining area. The entire contents of a traditional china hutch fit into the right-hand floor-to-ceiling cabinet.
Pass-through adds to the “open concept” and greatly increases the counter and cabinet space. Base cabinets each have doors that open to both sides; drawers open to the family room.
The island was a huge addition and lent itself to the “open concept” as well … by freeing up wall space and adding lots of counter top, additional seating and cabinet storage. By utilizing a downdraft exhaust vent, the sight-lines weren’t obstructed by a traditional hood vent. The message board in the background is a custom-built metallic chalkboard.
The cabinets are all Cherry — Decora “Brandywine” for everything but the island, which is a few shades darker (“Sepia”).
